JESSIE:
Over
30 years ago in Everett, WA, I made the decision to fully commit
to making music be the thread that would continue throughout my
life. Before that, I was just listening and playing in groups
with my brother, Jerry, a drummer. 've written songs in many genres,
mostly jazz, and have always been close to those that have a very
sensitive dimension with a lot of space and strong melodies. The
writing of my music is based mostly on inspiration and dreams.
The majority of the melodies in this album were written between
3 a.m. and 6 a.m., usually coming out of a
dream, or after writing poetry. Until ten years ago, I used to
compose all my melodies on the saxophone or harmonica. Now, most
of them are written at the piano. Then I usually give the melodies
to my pianist-partner, Tim Ponzek, who adds the harmonic progressions.
On this CD, he plays all the piano parts. Tim, who is also a fine
guitarist, is my soul brother. He comes from a musical family
and was in a group with his brothers when they were growing up.
He has been my musical director and keyboardist for many years
now.
TIM: "This is my second recording with Jessie. I'm
very happy with it. It was definitely enjoyable. Jessie and I
have a great rapport when we work together. The introspective
tunes, such as 'Within A Thought,' "Inside A Dream"
and 'In A Silent Place' are my favorites. I also felt that 'October
Moon' was a very special performance, with its smokey, jazzy feel."
